On November 9th, more than 150 TPAers gathered together to celebrate the close of the haunt season together at our Post-Halloween Bash, making the event an incredible success! Not only was everyone anxious to get together and hang out, sharing stories of their own Halloween adventures, Theme Park Adventure was excited to host the big shebang in our new digs at Don The Beachcomber!
The move from Trader Sam’s at the Disneyland Hotel to Don The Beachcomber wasn’t one that was a flip decision. For 2 1/2 years, TPAers have gathered under the tiki torches at Sam’s each month in a show of community that has grown – and outgrown that particular venue. And quite honestly, we were fairly nervous about moving our gathering spot, not knowing what impact it might have on the group and peoples’ decisions to join us. Fortunately, our amazing group has become so large and so dedicated to the spirit of community, they came in droves to Don The Beachcomber – and were really excited by what they found waiting at the new location!
TPA’s mixer was held in The Hidden Village – a huge, beautifully-themed indoor Polynesian room that has ample seating, a lot of mingling room, thatched roof huts, tables, and even a waterfall! TPAers enjoyed wild tiki cocktails under colorful twinkling string lights and even indulged in a special drink in a shrunken head cup named the TPA Typhoon, which was a really fantastic gesture of goodwill by the staff at Don The Beachcomber!
The evening consisted of the usual antics associated with most Theme Park Adventure gatherings, and our great friends at Knott’s Berry Farm added fuel to the madness by sending more than 100 miniature “Special Ops: Infected” dart guns to the event. And oh yes… our people used them. Yes, they did. All night long. Miraculously, no one lost an eye, and everyone was extremely grateful to Knott’s for sending the dart guns and other Halloween Haunt-related items up for grabs! We appreciate the Farm’s support and generosity when it comes to our mixers!
We held a raffle, which included some really nice prizes such as:
- Primo Beer mugs and other swag, courtesy of Don The Beachcomber
- 2 Disney CDs – Pirates of the Caribbean ride soundtrack, and Official Album of Walt Disney World
- Limited Edition Special Ops: Infected posters from Knott’s Scary Farm
- 2 tickets to Knott’s Merry Farm
A new TPAer also shared a bunch of seashell necklace leis with the group – and you know Rick West took advantage of that and created a crazed Mardi Gras-like atmosphere, much to the entertainment and amazement of the restaurant’s staff who were busy serving our group drinks and yummy pulled pork sandwiches!
In the end, our first mixer at Don The Beachcomber was a huge success, and we are extremely excited about and happy with our new home! The staff at Don’s was nothing but awesome and welcoming to our group, and The Hidden Village is nothing shy of awesome. Come rain or shine this winter season, we’re going to be comfortable and happy socializing and enjoying one another at Don’s.
A special shout-out goes to Emerson Duque, the head of operations for Don The Beachcomber. Emerson embraced TPA and its community with open arms, and really went above and beyond to make our transition to this new location smooth and stress-free. We appreciate our new partnership and friendship with Emerson and his team, and look forward to a long, prosperous relationship with Don’s for years to come! Mahalo!
As we transition into the holiday season, Theme Park Adventure has announced our Christmas Bash at Don’s, which will be held Sunday, December 7th at 7 PM! If you haven’t yet made your RSVP, please click the link and do so now – let’s turn those “Maybes” into “Going” statuses! If you’ve never been to a TPA mixer before, NOW is the time! End 2014 on a high note surrounded by new friends, as we look forward to the adventures that 2015 will bring us as a community of theme park fans, haunters, and like-minded people!
A very special thanks to all of you who made our first mixer at Don’s a huge success; this is your community! We look forward to seeing you all for our Christmas Bash and cannot wait for all of the fun madness that is sure to ensue once the gates to The Hidden Village swing open once again for us!
