Earlier this month, Theme Park Adventure held its Naughty & Nice Holiday Bash at Don the Beachcomber in Huntington Beach. With more than 100 TPAers from near and far in attendance, the Christmas mixer was an evening to remember! Fans gathered at the famous tiki restaurant and bar on Pacific Coast Highway for several hours of socializing, cocktail libations, and outrageous nerdy fun as together, we embraced the Holiday Season and said goodbye to 2016 collectively.
While all guests at our mixers are considered special, this month’s gathering had an extra-awesome VIP in attendance – the Krampus! Thanks to our friend Bill Rude, who made a fantastic appearance as the ancient Christmas demon. Bill is the owner/artist behind 7 Hells: The Retro Horror Art of Bill Rude, and a friend of both TPA and Midsummer Scream, and an asset to the horror and haunt community in general. To the delight of TPAers, Krampus hung out for quite a while, taking photos with all of the naughty little boys and girls – and as far as we know… all TPAers from that night are accounted for! He even brought a sack full of 7 Hells gifts for our raffle. A huge thanks to Bill for hanging out and dressing up!
Of course, Theme Park Adventure’s Christmas raffle was one of the highlights of the night, with prizes that included:
- A Hostel series DVD from TPAer Austin Y.
- A Queen Mary’s CHILL gift pack, courtesy of TPAer Peter V.
- 2 tickets to Sinister Pointe’s Not So Merry Holiday Haunt, courtesy of Sinister Pointe
- 2 tickets to Knott’s Merry Farm, courtesy of Knott’s Berry Farm
- 2 tickets to Holiday in the Park, courtesy of Six Flags Magic Mountain
- 2 tickets to Grinchmas, courtesy of Universal Studios Hollywood
- 4 tickets to CHILL, courtesy of Queen Mary
No Christmas party would be complete without a contest, so we held our second annual Ugly-Ass Christmas Sweater Contest, which was judged by none other than the Krampus himself! A handful of TPAers participated (they were all marvelous fashion statements), but only one could be the winner. The grand prize for ugliest Christmas sweater: a Coke bottle prop that was used in the Twister… Ride it Out at Universal Studios Florida, courtesy of Theme Park Adventure!
The weather outside was frightful, but the drinks were so delightful – the party lasted into the night, and we were thrilled to see so many familiar faces, and a lot of newcomers as well! The mixers always bring out a really cool mix of fans, haunters, and themed entertainment industry folks – a group that truly is the coolest!
A very special thank you to the staff at Don the Beachcomber for hosting our Holiday Bash! The team at Don’s is always super friendly, and we appreciate their partnership. If you’ve never been to Don’s, they always have something going on – make a trip out to the beach and check it for yourself!
The Holiday Bash is the last TPA gathering of 2016. We haven’t set a date yet for our first meet-up of the new year, but we do know it will be sometime in the spring. Our schedules are such that we have decided to throttle way back on our mixers; at this point, we plan on hosting quarterly get-togethers, because we do know our fans and friends love to get together and hang out as a group. In the months ahead, we will let you know when our Spring Fling will be a thing!
Until we meet again, Johanna and I wish you all the very brightest of the Holiday Season. May you have a Merry Christmas and a very successful, amazing New Year!
