It’s hard to believe we’re already two month into 2016, but we are! With the temperature a chilly 86 degrees outside, it’s definitely wintertime here in Southern California, as El Nino plows into us with wave after wave of devastating storms. At this rate, we may never see summer. It’s a good thing we have each other to raise our spirits and keep each other warm and safe inside the Hidden Village at Don the Beachcomber as our mixers continue in this new year!
On the evening of Sunday, January 17th, more than 100 theme park fans and haunt enthusiasts gathered at the famous tiki restaurant in Huntington Beach to kick off our Winter Nights at Don’s 2016 gatherings! It was tremendous to see everyone come together after the holidays, and ring in the new year together with potent tropical cocktails and exotic (okay, not so exotic) eats and treats!
Of course, the new year brought a new raffle prize session which included:
- Zombie-related goodies from long-time TPAer Austin Y.
- Star Wars salt and pepper shakers from Stefan Lawrence at Rethink Leisure & Entertainment
- A tiki mug and T shirt from our pals at Don the Beachcomber
- Multiple tickets to Crossroads Escape Games from Madison and the team
- Tickets to Knott’s Berry Farm from our friends at Knott’s
- Tickets to Universal Studios Hollywood that will hopefully be useful in getting some of our TPAers into a Potter soft opening, courtesy of our friends at Universal Studios Hollywood
As expected, the night was full of outrageous shenanigans and tiki drinks flowing in rivers as we mixed and mingled together at Don’s. There were brand-spankin’ new buttons to give away, and everyone seemed to have a great time. We had a great mix of new and old faces in the crowd, which always makes my heart happy; casual fans to industry pros like the table full of folks from Rethink Leisure & Entertainment, who came to see what the TPA fuss is all about (I am Rethink’s Show Writer, and my colleagues were curious – and had a good time)! We also welcomed back our dear friend, Ruben R., who’s been away for several years out of state, and has been a TPAer since before our mixers ever began – it’s so great to have him back as part of our group! Also, a huge shout out to our wonderful friends Noa Laporga and Angelina Khan from Top Haunts, who dropped by while visiting SoCal from Hawaii; we love those guys!
The team at Don the Beachcomber was exceptional once again, and we really appreciate their enthusiasm and fondness they have for our group – it makes us feel at home and excited to return again and again to Huntington Beach for more gatherings.
Speaking of more gatherings – our next Winter Nights at Don’s mixer will be held Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Don the Beachcomber at 7 PM! Be sure to visit our Theme Park Adventure event page to RSVP! EVERYONE is welcome, even if you have to come alone! We love first-timers, and always are excited to see familiar faces return time and again.
Thank each and every one of you who came out for a night of fellowship and fun! Let’s do it again really soon!
