On Sunday, March 15, Theme Park Adventure launched its 2015 Spring Nights at Don’s mixers in Orange County at Don the Beachcomber in Huntington Beach! Theme park fans, haunters, and industry professionals gathered under the tiki lights of the iconic restaurant on Pacific Coast Highway.
With the new season, TPA also unveiled a new holiday overlay for its very popular tiki buttons, created by renowned artist Tom “Thor” Thordarson (Tom also creates the seasonal overlays for each design), giving one to the first 30 TPAers to arrive at this month’s gathering! In case you didn’t receive a Spring Nights at Don’s button yet, don’t worry – you still have April and May to get yours!
The evening was filled with much laughter and lots of networking, which is what these events are all about each month. In addition to buttons, Theme Park Adventure also held a complimentary raffle, which included:
- 2 fine pens, courtesy of USA Network’s The Dig
- A gorgeous tiki room art print, courtesy of our great friends at Parks and Cons
- 2 pairs of tickets to Knott’s Berry Farm, courtesy of our friends at Knott’s, who are currently celebrating the 2015 Boysenberry Festival
- 2 ScareLA tickets, courtesy of the spooks at ScareLA
In addition to the usual shenanigans associated with Theme Park Adventure’s monthly raffle, Rick West called out long-time TPAer Kevin Guscott, who is moving out of state for career training until the end of the year. We love this guy, and will miss him – and we look forward to having him return to our mixers when he returns! Good luck, and do great things, Kevin!
Jeff Schiefelbein was also on hand from Sinister Pointe, and made a special announcement to the TPA group! Sinister Pointe will soon open a unique shop in Brea, California, called Curiosities. Curiosities will carry a wide assortment of “Rarities, Oddities, and Randomisities” according to their website. That translates to strange and bizarre gifts, jewelry and apparel, props, and collectibles slanted to the darker side in all of us! Additionally, Curiosities will sell special effects makeup and more, and Jeff made it clear to the group that Sinister Pointe’s new shop wants to be the place for haunters all across Southern California and beyond to acquire their contact lenses, makeup and other ghoulish delights! Curiosities is sure to deliver a thrill – and some chilling surprises – when it opens this spring in Orange County. Jeff also announced that once the location does open, it will host a special Theme Park Adventure event to get the community involved and excited about the shop! Details will come soon regarding the opening of Curiosities, and an official TPA evening celebrating Sinister Pointe’s latest project!
Theme Park Adventure thanks everyone who spent their evening with us this month, including the tremendous staff at Don the Beachcomber!
If you haven’t yet heard, we have announced April’s Spring Nights at Don’s 2 mixer, which will be held Sunday, April 26, 2015! We have an event page up on Facebook, and would love to have you RSVP, so that we and the staff at Don’s know how many beautiful faces to expect (or brace for). Even if you have never been, or need to come alone, we encourage you to take that step, and you will find yourself instantly surrounded by like-minded friends and fans in an environment that is tiki nirvana!
To all of you – thank you! We’ll see you soon!
