From the creative minds of CreepyLA and Theme Park Adventure, comes an all-new chapter in terror: Midsummer Scream Halloween Festival. This weekend-long celebration of everything Halloween, haunts and horror makes its debut July 30-31 at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California.
Midsummer Scream features more than 100,000 square feet of event space that will showcase vendors, makeup demonstrations, stage presentations, live entertainment, a screening room, haunted attraction experiences and more.
“We’re combining all of our talents, production knowledge, and years of experience to create an amazing show that we know fans are going to love,” said David Markland, Executive Director of Midsummer Scream. “Each week from now until our July debut, we will be announcing more participants and unveiling different aspects of the show that are going to have people counting down the days with great anticipation.”

We regretfully confirm that Theme Park Adventure is no longer associated with ScareLA Halloween convention in any way. We are unable to answer any questions about the convention’s current operations or future plans, nor are we going to make any further statement at this time regarding the extremely difficult decision we’ve made to resign as two of the event’s producers.
We appreciate the support of the haunt community, and will always be incredibly proud of what we accomplished as a team over the past three years. Sadly, that has come to an end, and we are just as disappointed about that as our friends throughout the industry are.
Thank you all for the outpouring of love and strength during this extremely challenging transition. We promise that we have not abandoned this great community, nor are we fading away. Theme Park Adventure is stronger than ever before, and remains dedicated to the Southern California haunt community and beyond.
We are family. Always have been, always will be.
— Rick West & Johanna Atilano
Halloween is about to get so much spookier! A mysterious nomadic clan called The Travelers are coming, and they’re bringing their magical BloodMoon Faire to the Los Angeles area in October 2016! First, though, they’re making a stop at next week’s premier Halloween and Haunted Attraction convention to showcase the event to the press and public: ScareLA, August 8th & 9th at the Pasadena Convention Center.
The BloodMoon Faire will be a magical event similar to a Renaissance Faire, but with an immersive Halloween theme. It will feature staged entertainment, nightly parades, ghosts and goblins, and most exciting of all: The Gothic Hills Manor – The World’s First Crowdsourced Haunted Attraction.

If you’ve attended a haunted attraction just about anywhere in the world, chances are, you’ve witnessed a “slider” in action – a monster (usually on the streets/in a scare zone) that lunges out of the shadows, sliding on its hands and knees toward screaming guests huddled together in the darkness and fog.
The technique of sliding dates back decades, and can be traced to Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California. There, during its annual Halloween event, Knott’s Scary Farm, the art of sliding at people to terrify them was born in Ghost Town. It has quite literally spread around the globe and is a widely-used scare tactic used in haunted houses and attractions of all sizes.
Decayed Brigade is a diverse team of male and female sliders from across Southern California’s broad spectrum of haunts and attractions. The 2015 Decayed Brigade is sponsored by Scott Ramp’s The Scream Team.

Joining the Legend of Disneyland’s Hatbox Ghost panel presentation is Walt Disney Imagineer Daniel Joseph, also referred to as an “Illusioneer”, following in the footsteps of the late, great Yale Gracey. Daniel was the creative in charge of bringing the Hatbox Ghost back to Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion attraction this spring, as part of the park’s 60th Anniversary Diamond Celebration.
Daniel Joseph is a Senior Special Effects and Illusion Designer at Walt Disney Imagineering. Before Disney, Daniel made haunted attractions in his parents’ basement starting at age 11. He then studied Industrial Design in Philadelphia, where for several summers, he was a special effects designer for the Eastern State Penitentiary’s Terror Behind the Walls haunted attraction. He has been an Imagineer since 2006, when he won first prize in the Imagineering-sponsored Imagi-Nations design competition. Since joining WDI, Daniel has conceived, designed, and installed many new special effects and illusions in Disney theme parks around the world, including Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, Test Track, Magic Kingdom expansion, and both Trader Sam’s tiki bars, to name a few. Most recently, Daniel was the “Illusioneer” in charge of bringing the Hatbox Ghost back to The Haunted Mansion for Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary. Daniel holds 20 Patents with the Walt Disney Company.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to announce Daniel’s inclusion in our Hatbox Ghost presentation,” said Rick West, Founder and Editor of Theme Park Adventure and Creative Programming Producer for ScareLA. “This robust and diverse presentation celebrating our love and fascination with The Haunted Mansion is going to be a must-see cornerstone moment at this year’s ScareLA show. We are honored to have the support and partnership of Walt Disney Imagineering in this effort, and cannot wait to hear Daniel’s incredible story of bringing the attraction’s Hatbox Ghost back from the grave, if you will!”
