Big Worm’s Sherwood Scare Home Haunt 2013

Each Halloween season, Theme Park Adventure has its finger firmly on the pulse of Southern California regarding what happening. We visit all types of haunts during the season, from theme parks and stand alone attractions to yard displays. In 2013, TPA visited 30 different haunts between the end of September and the beginning of November. While we definitely get around, there are inevitably, some haunts we simply miss due to scheduling and time – or the lack thereof. We were aware of Big Worm’s Sherwood Scare home haunt/maze, but simply couldn’t fit it in to our initial Halloween schedule of events. However, once the second half of October rolled around, it was clear by the personal text messages and fan comments on Twitter that Sherwood Scare was not to be missed. Endgames: Warriors of the Apocalypse at Knott’s Scary Farm is definitely one of the most gritty, strange mazes that has been part of the Halloween Haunt lineup over the years. 2013 saw the return of the Brooke Walters/Gus Krueger spectacle that can only be described as the love child of Max Max Beyond Thunderdome and The Book of Eli. Fans love Endgames for its brash style and frenzied theme; the real question is, after this past season, is the fight-till-the-death maze down for the count, or can it last another round?

REVIEW: Delusion: Masque of Mortality 2013

IMG_4249There’s no question; Delusion: Masque of Mortality was one of Southern California’s most highly anticipated attractions of 2013. When it was showcased this summer at ScareLA, fans went nuts as owner Jon Braver described what the elaborate theatrical experience would become for its third year. Ironically, the production’s setting – an old church – would prove to be the most challenging and ultimately, unforgiving venue that Braver has dealt with since Delusion began in Los Angeles several years ago…
