L.A. Zoo Lights 2015 (9)The brightest spot in Griffith Park this holiday season is most definitely the Los Angeles Zoo, which is now hosting its second L.A. Zoo Lights event through January 3, 2016. The mostly Christmas-themed event is produced in collaboration with theatrical set designer Gregg Lacy, as well as Bionic League, known within the entertainment industry for their work on large-scale events and stage productions for clients such as Daft Punk and Kanye West.

Guests will find a wide array of traditional-type holiday displays set up throughout the Los Angeles Zoo, as well as a fountain show outside of the L.A.I.R. exhibit, state-of-the-art projection mapping, live reindeer, adult and family beverages, arts and crafts, and of course, Santa Claus (on select dates).

Boo at the L.A. Zoo Spooks up Good Family Fun in 2015

Boo at the LA Zoo 2015 (2)The Los Angeles Zoo is a great place to visit with your family (or with friends, a date, etc.) this month as they celebrate Boo at the L.A. Zoo every day this month through Halloween! On weekends, there are added activities to enhance the event, but any day is a great day to check out one of Los Angeles’ only truly family-friendly haunts!

We recently visited Boo at the L.A. Zoo 2015 to check it out first-hand, and had a wonderful time! The weather was cooler here in Southern California than it’s been the past few weeks, and arriving before the zoo opened, we found relatively light crowds (which I would assume, will grow larger each day/weekend as we get closer to Halloween). Making the rounds takes no more than a couple hours – but obviously, there is a day’s-worth of sights to see at the L.A. Zoo!

The 5th Annual Brew at the L.A. Zoo, one of summer’s most popular events for guests 21 and over, returns on Friday, August 7, 2015, 7 to 11 pm, featuring an after-hours visit to the Zoo with beer samples from 55+ local craft and microbreweries and an eclectic music lineup including “the best of the worst of the ’80s” with The Spazmatics; The Noble Gasses surf band; The Black Canyon dance band; live karaoke with Casual Encounters; and something completely different from Der Burgermeister Boys, a German Polka band.

New this year is a special VIP Lounge with complimentary food, including a bountiful buffet offering early 6 pm access, hors d’oeuvres, snacks, specialty cocktails and exclusive access to several breweries.

Other highlights are dancing with DJ Johnny Hawkes, an array of “pub grub” food for purchase, photos with the celebrated “Beer Girls,” zookeeper talks, up-close encounters with some of the Zoo’s smaller residents and visits to animal habitats.  Adding to the brew mix is Wreck Check, which will be on standby to provide breathalyzer services.  With sell-out crowds at the four previous Brew at the L.A. Zoo evenings, advance ticket purchase is strongly suggested.
