L.A. Zoo Lights Ranks on 2015 USA Today 10Best List of Holiday Tradition Destinations

L.A. ZOO LIGHTS, which heralds a new standard for nighttime magic at the Los Angeles Zoo through Sunday, January 3, 2016, is named one of the Best Zoo Lights 2015 in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice travel awards. 10Best local experts and editors picked the initial 20 nominees, and the top 10 winners were determined by popular vote. L.A. ZOO LIGHTS, in only its second year, was selected #10. An instant hit when it debuted last year, attracting more than 170,000 people, the dazzling wonderland returned in 2015 to top visitors’ “holiday tradition” destination list with a trove of awe-inspiring new lights and displays for an even brighter atmosphere of wonder and delight.

L.A. Zoo Lights 2015 Brings Holiday Cheer to Griffith Park

The brightest spot in Griffith Park this holiday season is most definitely the Los Angeles Zoo, which is now hosting its second L.A. Zoo Lights event through January 3, 2016. The mostly Christmas-themed event is produced in collaboration with theatrical set designer Gregg Lacy, as well as Bionic League, known within the entertainment industry for their work on large-scale events and stage productions for clients such as Daft Punk and Kanye West.
Guests will find a wide array of traditional-type holiday displays set up throughout the Los Angeles Zoo, as well as a fountain show outside of the L.A.I.R. exhibit, state-of-the-art projection mapping, live reindeer, adult and family beverages, arts and crafts, and of course, Santa Claus (on select dates).

L.A. Zoo Lights Returns Bigger and Brighter for 2015 Holiday Season

With the flick of a switch that illuminates a dazzling wonderland, L.A. ZOO LIGHTS returns bigger, better and even more spectacular as it heralds a new standard for nighttime magic at the Los Angeles Zoo from Friday, November 27, 2015, through Sunday, January 3, 2016. With awe-inspiring features providing a brand-new spin on holiday lights in Griffith Park, L.A. ZOO LIGHTS sets the Zoo’s enchanting environment aglow with breathtaking displays, among them thousands upon thousands of LED lights, flurries of illuminated snowflakes, stunning 3-D animated projections and glittering light tunnels. A fanciful menagerie of animal characters include mischievous animated monkeys scampering through the grounds, a glowing 130-foot snake coiled on a roof, a hillside with snowboarding “lizards,” 3-D animated elephants wearing colorful holiday sweaters, an origami-type rhino lit from within and so much more. L.A. ZOO LIGHTS is open every night, except Christmas Eve (December 24) and Christmas Day (December 25), from 6 to 10 pm Mondays through Thursdays, and 6 to 11 pm Fridays through Sundays and December 21 through 23.

New Year’s Eve at L.A. Zoo Lights 2014

Christmas may have passed, but L.A. ZOO LIGHTS is going strong, WITH MORE THAN 150,000 TICKETS SOLD SO FAR IN ITS DEBUT YEAR. L.A. Zoo Lights remains open nightly through January 4, INCLUDING NEW YEAR’S EVE!
Featured on Wednesday, December 31, 6 to 10 pm, is A VERY ANIMATED NEW YEAR’S EVE, inviting guests to ring in the new year family-style with screenings of critter-filled DreamWorks Animation classics including Shrek the Halls, Dragons Gift of the Night Fury, Merry Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda Holiday throughout the evening. Zoo dining facilities and snack bars are open.

LA Zoo Reindeer Romp Coming This Season

Four visiting reindeer return to the Los Angeles Zoo for the only opportunity to see real reindeer in Los Angeles at the “LA ZOO REINDEER ROMP,” which opens Friday, November 28, 2014, and continues through Sunday, January 4, 2015 (except Christmas Day), during regular Zoo hours (10 am to 5 pm). Festivities only begin with the reindeer, known as Jingle, Belle, Noel, and Velvet, who are on view daily (as well as at the “LA Zoo Lights” nighttime extravaganza). On weekends from 10 am to 4 pm beginning Saturday, November 29, Zoo guests also enjoy a flurry of seasonal flourishes, including holiday decorations and a craft project for youngsters while Zoo animals engage in the fun with enrichment activities like unwrapping their very own presents. Chats and photos with Santa Claus are available from 11 am to 3 pm through Sunday, December 21.
All activities, except Santa photos, are free with paid Zoo admission, which is is $19 for general admission (ages 13 to 61); $16 for seniors (ages 62+), and $14 for children (ages 2 to 12). No ticket is required for children under age two. Zoo admission for Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association members is free.
