LEGO Reproduction of Queen Mary Coming to Long Beach
Posted on June 28, 2015
When Britain’s most famous ocean liner was still a dream, the Cunard Lines recruited the John Brown shipyard in Scotland to build what would become the world’s most famous ocean liner. When Britain’s certified LEGO builders, Bright Bricks Inc. decided to commemorate the ship in LEGO Bricks – they never dreamed the huge model would someday come to Long Beach and be displayed on the actual Queen Mary. “The agreement to display our model on the ship is the perfect end to a wonderful LEGO adventure,” said Bright Bricks co-founder, Ed Diment.
The LEGO company certifies only a few official model makers; Bright Bricks is located in England and is a well-established creative resource. “Companies from around the world hire us to interpret their products or brand using LEGO bricks. But, in this case, we decided to build the Queen Mary for our own satisfaction. It required four professional builders and over 250,000 individual LEGO bricks. It took almost four months to complete the project,” Diment added.

Queen Elizabeth to Dock Near Queen Mary
Posted on January 31, 2015
The Queen Mary will receive her sea-going “niece”, February 5, 2015. This will mark the first time a modern Cunard liner will dock and disembark passengers in the Long Beach harbor. The QE is today one of the world’s most advanced passenger vessels and is currently on a global cruise. The original Queen Elizabeth was the sister-ship to Queen Mary and together made over 2,000 trans-Atlantic voyages when in active service for Cunard.
“The Elizabeth will berth adjacent to the Queen Mary and her arrival will begin a day-long series of events and activities to celebrate the unprecedented meeting of ships. Admission to the Queen Mary will be complimentary that day from 10am to 8pm. Public guests are encouraged to come aboard and take advantage of special tours, discounted attractions, and live entertainment” said Queen Mary General Manager, John Jenkins. The Elizabeth is expected to dock early February 5th and will depart the same day at sunset. There will be no public access to the Queen Elizabeth.

Queen Mary’s 80th Anniversary Celebration
Posted on September 20, 2014
The world’s most beloved ocean liner turns 80 on September 26 and the public is invited to join a ship-wide celebration. The Queen Mary will open her gangways and ballrooms, decks and salons, attractions and eateries to a daylong celebration highlighted by a very special event. There will be no charge for admission to the ship (10:00 AM – 7:00 PM), discounted parking and discounted ship tours and attractions. The general public — especially Long Beach residents and families — are encouraged to join the festivities.
Commemorations will include the reading of letters by King George V at the ship’s launch on Sept. 26, 1934, and a recent congratulatory message from Queen Elizabeth II on the ship’s 80th anniversary. The Queen Mary will use the anniversary event to announce a groundbreaking initiative, a forward-looking plan inspired by the ship’s eight-decades of public life and overall influence on maritime commerce.
