Universal Announces Insidious: Return to The Further Maze for Halloween Horror Nights Orlando and Hollywood

Halloween Horror Nights Insidious MazeThis fall, it’s not the maze that’s haunted… YOU ARE.

The twisted minds behind Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood are teaming up with Focus Features and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment to create all-new mazes based on the chilling Insidious film franchise. The announcement comes after the third installment of the film, Insidious: Chapter 3, hit theaters to terrify moviegoers.

At both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando, event goers will be transported into some of the most sinister scenes from all three films in the Insidious franchise. Guests will investigate unexplained phenomena in the Lambert family’s eerie Victorian home and find themselves at the ghastly séance that unleashes chaos and horror. They’ll journey into The Further – a supernatural realm that houses tormented spirits – and face deadly ghosts and demons like the Woman in Black and Red-Faced Demon who will stop at nothing to infiltrate the world of the living.

REVIEW: Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights 2014

Horror_Nights_2014_2269Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights 2014 opened to the masses on Friday, September 19th this year, making it the first large-scale Halloween event of the season here in Southern California. With temperatures all week above 90 degrees, it was hard to believe that Halloween had arrived; clearly, Mother Nature hadn’t received the memo. Strangely enough, opening day of Halloween Horror Nights was overcast and much cooler than the rest of the week; it appears that the event’s Creative Director/Executive Producer, John Murdy, called in a favor with the powers that be! Or perhaps he made an even more sinister offering of sorts – come to think of it, we haven’t seen his design counterpart, Chris Williams, for weeks

The Walking Dead: End of the Line Maze Preview 2014

The Walking Dead: The End of the LineWith 2014’s Halloween Horror Nights upon us at Universal Studios Hollywood, we have one more behind the scenes peek for fans – this time, it’s from the maze The Walking Dead: End of the Line. Last week, as temperatures hit 100+ degrees outside, HHN’s Creative Director and Executive Producer, John Murdy, took a handful of media into the Walking Dead maze, where it was easily upward of 110 degrees. We had to keep reminding ourselves that it’s Halloween season – because Mother Nature certainly hasn’t gotten the memo here in Southern California.

When Universal announced the return of The Walking Dead franchise for both of its American parks, the news was met with mixed reaction from fans – obviously, those who are hard core Walking Dead fans were immediately thrilled; those who are neutral or actually don’t like the television series (I know a few – they’re rare, but they do exist) rolled eyes and voiced their dislike. And I totally get that. When you have something as popular as Halloween Horror Nights that has only a very limited capacity for new content each season, the moment you begin repeating themes or IP content, you head down a slippery slope that is often taken as creative being run by the company’s marketing machine (which sadly, should never be the case, but is a constant battle in this industry these day), or simply as being lazy. The latter certainly isn’t the case with Universal Studios, and we know for a fact that John Murdy plays a heavy role in selecting the event’s creative content from one season to another. The bottom line – Murdy really likes the franchise, its creators, and the general public is in love with The Walking Dead (isn’t your DVR set to record the season premiere!?) still.

An American Werewolf in London Maze Preview 2014

Stay on the road. Keep clear of the moors… That warning lives on in the hearts of An American Werewolf in London Fans everywhere. And in just a matter of days, fans of the John Landis film will get a chance to live the American Werewolf experience at Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights!

An American Werewolf in London at Universal Studios Hollywood's Halloween Horror Nights 2014On Friday, September 12th, Theme Park Adventure joined Creative Director/Executive Producer of Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights, John Murdy, for a special behind-the-scenes look at arguably the most highly-anticipated maze this year at the theme park’s event, An American Werewolf in London. A handful of selected media outlets piled into a waiting van and were driven to the park’s Lower Lot, where the maze has been built in the extended queue of the Jurassic Park attraction.

While Halloween certainly hangs heavy in the air, it was hard to ignore that it was over 90 degrees here in Los Angeles as we stood outside the facade of the maze – a perfect reproduction of the Slaughtered Lamb pub, as featured in the movie. Inside the maze, temperatures rose to probably close to 110 degrees as the finishing touches were being put on the attraction. We have utmost respect for the folks that have put the Halloween Horror Nights mazes together in really nasty heat the past several weeks; there are no fans, no ventilation, or reprieve from the oppressive temperatures within each maze.
