Thirsty River Bar and Trek SnacksGuests trekking through Africa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom park will enjoy the new Thirsty River Bar and Trek Snacks. This adventurous food and beverage location rests near the foot of Expedition Everest and treats guests to an assortment of exotic drinks and eats.

The Trek Snacks menu varies throughout the day, with delicious pastries in the morning and more substantial bites such as sushi and sandwiches in the afternoon and evening. Breakfast pastries include assorted muffins and Danish, croissants and an indulgent chocolate twist. Healthful snacks offered include fresh fruit, crudité and hummus, edamame and an Asian noodle salad.

Zuri’s Sweets Shop Now Open at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Zuri's Sweets Shop at Disney's Animal KingdomGuests can take their taste buds on a mouth-watering safari with a visit to Zuri’s Sweets Shop at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This new merchandise location at Harambe Market in the Africa section of the park offers an assortment of wild new treats and eats.

Zuri’s Sweets Shop features 80 exclusive food items inspired by the sights, sounds and flavors of Africa. Guests can purchase themed decorative candy apples, assorted bulk trail mixes, uniquely flavored chocolate bars and delectable popcorn with a touch of African spices. Guests with a taste for barbeque also can find the signature sweet and spicy sauce from the park’s popular Flame Tree Barbecue.

This unique location also includes a colorful confectionary case filled with a variety of candies and baked treats. Guests with a sweet tooth will be thrilled to find tiger-shaped sugar cookies, elephant-shaped caramel apples and colorful giraffe marshmallow pops alongside Disney confectionary classics, such as Mickey Mouse chocolate chip cookies and tasty chocolate fudge.

Another Gorilla Birth at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

Disney's Animal Kingdom Baby GorillaIt’s another boy! Disney Cast Members, guests and animal lovers are celebrating the birth of the second gorilla in one month for the family of critically endangered western lowland gorillas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Born Sept. 3 to mother Kashata and father Gino, the healthy infant joins another male gorilla who was born Aug. 7 to Azizi and Gino. The family group also includes another adult female, Benga, and a four-year-old female named Lilly.

“It’s exciting to see a strong, nurturing family of this endangered species flourishing at Disney’s Animal Kingdom,” said Jay Therien, Animal Operations Manager for Disney’s Animal Programs. ”As our bouncing baby boy bonds with Kashata, we’re thrilled with his health and development.”

Baby Gorilla at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Endangered Gorilla Born at Disney’s Animal KingdomAs they follow the path that winds along the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail, guests at Disney’s Animal Kingdom may get a glimpse of one of nature’s most endearing sights – a newborn male gorilla cuddling with his mother. Born Aug. 7 to mother Azizi and father Gino, the healthy infant has already become an integral member of his family group, which includes two other adult females, Kashata and Benga and a four-year-old female named Lilly.

Members of the primate team at Disney’s Animal Kingdom are closely watching mother and baby to ensure Azizi is adapting to her maternal duties, such as properly holding the baby and keeping up with his demanding nursing schedule. Most gorilla mothers keep their offspring close for several months as the infants adjust to their environment. Gorillas are typically weaned between the ages of four and five, but begin to eat solids between two to six months.

Harambe Nights Evening Spectacular at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Celebrates the 20th Anniversary of "The Lion King"Harambe Nights at Disney’s Animal Kingdom presents the sights, sounds and flavors of Africa during a dazzling new theatrical production and energetic street party celebrating the 20th anniversary of “The Lion King” classic film.

Each Saturday from June 7 through August 9 during this special-ticket, after-hours event, Harambe Nights treats guests to a magical evening. Venturing to the Africa section of the park, guests start the evening with a welcome reception featuring refreshing sips and savory bites of African-inspired appetizers. As they head to the Harambe Theatre, guests receive a special package of chef-created “Lion Chow” perfect for the 55-minute theatrical extravaganza, “The Lion King Concert in the Wild.” This original show comprises celebrity narrators, a live orchestra, choir and special effects to present the moving story of Simba’s coming of age like never before.
