Something NEW Has Gotten Into the Matterhorn at Disneyland

The Matterhorn Bobsleds has been one of Disneyland’s most iconic attractions since it first opened in 1959. Arguably, it is just as recognizable as Sleeping Beauty Castle, as no other Disney park in the world has a Matterhorn mountain dominating its skyline.
Over the years, the Matterhorn has seen many changes, the most notable coming in 1978, when Imagineers filled in the mountain, creating icy caverns, show scenes, and a new resident moved in – the Abominable Snowman. You kids old enough to remember certainly recall the company’s very successful “What’s Gotten Into The Matterhorn?” marketing campaign that was on television ads, billboards, and in print. Those Disneylanders born in the ’80s, ’90s or after, the Abominable Snowman has always just been there. Regardless, the monster (lovingly referred to as “Matterhorn Harold” by Cast Members and fans alike) in the mountain is one of the most popular and well-known attraction-based characters at any Disney park. And, he’s undergone a huge change in the past several weeks.
In the shadow of other Disneyland 60th Anniversary components, especially the new Paint the Night, Disneyland Forever, and World of Color – Celebrate! shows, the Matterhorn’s recent rehab/renovation has gone virtually unnoticed on everyone’s radar, despite the fact that the entire show inside the mountain has been changed. Even the long-anticipated return of the Hatbox Ghost at Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion has completely eclipsed what’s taken place inside the Matterhorn. The ride is no longer exactly “kid-friendly”, nor is it your daddy’s Matterhorn anymore…

Additional Disneyland Resort Holiday Merriment in 2014

The Happiest Place on Earth Just Gets Merrier starting Thursday, Nov. 13, when Anna and Elsa from Walt Disney Pictures’ animated hit “Frozen” join the annual holiday celebration at the Disneyland Resort. The Holidays bring themed entertainment, sparkling decorations, delicious treats, festive traditions and holiday shopping to locations throughout the Resort.
Among the highlights of the season, Nov. 13 through Jan. 6, 2015, is the return of the breathtaking “World of Color – Winter Dreams” holiday spectacular – with new songs added from the “Frozen” soundtrack. Also returning to Disney California Adventure Park is the festive “Disney ¡Viva Navidad!” holiday celebration and the grand finale of the season, a five-day celebration of Three Kings Day.

The Happiest Place on Earth gets merrier beginning Thursday, Nov. 13, when the traditional warm and festive Disneyland Resort holiday celebration begins, bringing themed entertainment, sparkling decorations, delicious treats and holiday shopping to locations throughout the Resort.
The season, Nov. 13 through Jan. 6, 2015 (ending with Three Kings Day) will welcome the return of the breathtaking “World of Color – Winter Dreams” holiday spectacular and “Disney ¡Viva Navidad!” holiday celebration in Disney California Adventure Park along with beloved Disneyland Park holiday traditions.

Disneyland 101: Main Street U.S.A.

Walt Disney on Main Street, U.S.A.: “Main Street, U.S.A. is America at the turn of the [20th] century – the crossroads of an era, the gas lamps and the electric lamp – the horse-drawn car and the auto car. Main Street is everyone’s hometown . . . the heart line of America.”
Overview: Main Street, U.S.A., recreates the unique charm of small-town America at the turn of the [20th] century, filled with hope and optimism for the future. Main Street, U.S.A. serves as a vast entrance corridor and the “opening scene” for the Magic Kingdom experience. It provides a transition between the outside world and the themed experiences of Disneyland Park, drawing guests in to discover more.

Disneyland 101: Mickey’s Toontown

Walt Disney on Mickey Mouse, whose house is in Toontown: “I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing – that it was all started by a mouse.”
Overview: The long-time homes of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and friends are found in this cartoon world at Disneyland Park. In Mickey’s Toontown, guests are transported to the colorful and animated metropolis where the Disney animators’ sketchpad comes alive. Here, guests can meet the “big cheese” himself at Mickey’s House, test Gadget’s Go Coaster as it rolls along a giant acorn and hitch a ride on a zany taxi cab on Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin. Kids of all ages are encouraged to play in this whimsical interactive land.
