It’s that time of year again, and while some may think they’re seeing pink at Knott’s Berry Farm because of Valentine’s Day, that’s not the case. Beginning today, Knott’s and Susan G. Komen Orange County enter into their 4th year together helping to raise awareness about breast cancer with Knott’s for the Cure.
What does this mean for park-goers? For one thing, they’ll be seeing a lot of pink. During the event, which lasts from January 9 through March 5, 2017, several of the theme park’s most iconic attractions will be washed in pink lighting after dark, altering the Buena Park skyline dramatically; this includes Supreme Scream (beginning on Valentine’s Day) and the Calico Mine Ride.
The symbolic pink color doesn’t stop there. Guests may now purchase special Pink Tickets that will grant them admission to the park, as well as earmark a portion of each admission to be donated to Susan G. Komen Orange County. Those tickets may be purchased online at Knotts.com. In addition to the Pink Tickets, guests will find pink merchandise for sale throughout Knott’s Berry Farm as well, including special t-shirts, which also provide a percentage of each sale to the foundation.
Over the past several years, Knott’s Berry Farm has raised more than $360,000.00 for Susan G. Komen Orange County; something that the theme park is very proud of, and rightfully so. That’s a healthy chunk of change going to a cause that benefits everyone – not just women. The more we know about breast cancer as a society, the quicker we can act to prevent it, deal with it, and one day, eradicate it completely. The park’s new General Manager, Jon Storbeck, said, “I am immensely proud of what both organizations have achieved as a team. Our park is committed to doing its part in raising funds and awareness to end the fight against breast cancer.”
During the promotion this year, Knott’s is hosting a special even called Scream Against Breast Cancer. This month, Knott’s will invite breast cancer survivors and their families to ride the tallest attraction in the park – Supreme Scream. Once at the highest point of the ride, these special guests will scream as loudly as they can – not only against breast cancer, but as a victory cry as survivors. The moment will be captured and documented by GoPro cameras, which will be mounted to the ride.
This is a very successful event, and we are pleased to see just how many pink shirts and supportive merchandise is bought and worn around the theme park. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more important or worthy cause that the whole family can understand and get behind. Kudos to Knott’s for putting their money where their mouths are and being such an important part of the Komen foundation’s fight against breast cancer!
