As part of Universal Studios Hollywood’s epic transformation, CityWalk welcomed the official arrival of their newest restaurant and venue, Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville. At exactly 5 o’clock on Thursday evening, March 30th, Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band performed on the restaurant’s stage to celebrate the grand opening and first-ever Margaritaville in California with hundreds of fans, friends, and press with margaritas in hand.
While Margaritaville just made its debut in California, the Caribbean-themed restaurant is no stranger to the dining world and Universal. For many years, the restaurant has been celebrated and loved by fans around the world and has shown enormous popularity at destinations like Universal CityWalk at Universal Orlando Resort, the Las Vegas Strip, and 60 other global locations. I’ve never personally dined at a Margaritaville other than at CityWalk Hollywood, but have always admired the laid-back vibe and famous hand-crafted margaritas and dishes that they offer.
A little over a month ago, Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville soft-opened (also known as “technical rehearsal”) to the public in Hollywood. The buzz around this new restaurant flooded social media feeds, and not too long after, we found ourselves dining and enjoying multiple margaritas at this newest and hottest destination at CityWalk. Ever since its announcement, we were excited about this new arrival. CityWalk Hollywood needed something new, unique, and exciting – something that is original to our home in Southern California; Margaritaville was exactly what we needed. Since our first visit over a month ago to Margaritaville, we’ve made several trips back and are never disappointed. We were surprised that the second floor (part of the old home of Jillian’s bowing alley) wasn’t used at all, but the first floor is used nicely with a Caribbean flare and plenty of table/booth and bar seating, including an outdoor fire pit area. Signature drinks and dishes from the menu we recommend are the Watermelon Margarita, Who’s to Blame Margarita, Crispy Coconut Shrimp, Jimmy’s Jammin’ Jambalaya and Roasted Chicken. On Thursday through Sunday, the stage welcomes live bands to entertain the evening crowds. We’re huge fans of live music, and look forward to visiting in the evening and tapping our toes with a margarita (or several) in hand.
We’re thrilled about all the changes at our home park and at CityWalk. We anticipate this is yet another part of what is a much larger transformation. In addition to Margaritaville, CityWalk has recently welcomed new and revamped dining and entertainment destinations including Universal Cinema, Voodoo Doughnuts, Dongpo Kitchen, and LudoBird. We’re excited for future and continuous innovation that Universal strives for, and believe this is only the beginning.
