As surprising as it is, when it comes to Halloween events and attractions in the Greater Los Angeles region, there aren’t that many offerings to be had. Fortunately for fans of all ages, Boney Island, which has become a Halloween staple here in Southern California, is set to return this year in a big way – a major expansion, which has just been announced by the home haunt’s owner and creator, Rick Polizzi.
For the first time ever, Boney Island is going to expand to the front yard of one of Rick’s neighbors, almost doubling the footprint of the beloved spectacle! It’s an undertaking of epic proportions, and a huge win for Halloween fans, as mounting costs and local municipality involvement in recent years have threatened to end this Southland tradition.
To help offset the cost of putting on the show, and paying the city for traffic enforcement officers as well as street closures each night Boney Island is operational, Rick has launched a campaign on GoFundMe.com, which we encourage you to check out. If you cannot afford to donate to the Boney Island campaign, there are others ways you can help, including simply sharing the link for it with your friends on social media.
If you are unfamiliar with Boney Island, it is a home haunt set in an upscale, quiet neighborhood in Sherman Oaks, not far from Universal Studios and Downtown Los Angeles. Its creator, Rick Polizzi, is a multiple Emmy Award-winning producer, who worked for years on The Simpsons. His labor of love each Halloween draws some 55,000 guests to Sherman Oaks, which is a blessing and a curse at this point for Boney Island.
At this point, the city has become involved, and Rick is required to pay for expensive permits, coordinate traffic enforcement officers, and this year a street closure each night Boney Island is in operation. A street closure? Yes. You see, this year, Boney Island is expanding in a big way – to a neighboring front yard, nearly doubling the overall footprint of the already-massive home haunt! To ensure everyone’s safety and a cohesive experience, Rick and his team have opted to work with the local government, and will be closing down the street that runs between the two homes. This is an exciting announcement – but one that comes with a price.
Additionally, Rick needs more hands to help create the biggest Boney Island experience ever! He’s asking for fellow haunters, creative types, and enthusiastic fans to lend their hands and some of their time to help put this year’s Boney Island together; he also is hoping to find a few more volunteers to help things run smoothly during October operations. If this is something you can help with, please contact Rick directly at email@example.com. For more information on Rick, you may also visit his personal website at RickPolizzi.com. Please help us get the word out that Boney Island needs all hands on deck to ensure their aggressive 2017 expansion plans go smoothly and the result is nothing more than spectacular – we know it will be! I have no doubt that the SoCal haunt and fan community will rally around Rick and Boney Island – let’s get the word out and make this the best year ever for this cherished home haunt!
